Cronrath continues winning ways on WSU track team

Matt Cronrath scored the first Cougar win of the day for the WSU men’s track and field team, taking the 1500 meters with a personal-best time of 3:46.95 in the Husky dual meet held April 30 in Seattle. His previous best time was 3:57.33.

This year (2010-11), Cronrath is a redshirt sophomore. During the Cross Country competition last fall he finished 16th at the WSU-UW dual meet (held in Ephrata) with a 6-k time of 19:13.43. He was fourth on the team, seventh overall at the Anderson Invite (held in Spokane Valley) running the 8-k race in a time of 25:43.00. He was fourth on the team and 129th in the White Race at Pre-Nationals (in Terre Haute, Ind.) in a time of 25.18.8 and sixth on the team, 140th overall, in the 10-k race at the NCAA West Regional (held 11/13/10 in Springfield, Ore.) in a time of 32:28.02. He was also named to the Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention team.

As a WSU freshman (2008-09) Cronrath trained with the Cross Country team but did not compete. As a sophomore (2009-10), he was redshirted for the Cross Country season.

Cronrath earned nine varsity letters at Odessa High School, lettering four times in cross country and was named team captain in both his junior and senior years. He earned four varsity letters in track and field and was named team captain his senior season under coach Travis Schuh. He also earned one varsity letter in basketball.

He was born in May 1990, in Odessa. His father Mark is a grain merchant and his mother Dorris is a teacher in the Wilson Creek School District. He has an older sister Kysa.
