Letter to the Editor: Selling natural resources not a good idea says letter writer

The United States is blessed with a reasonable supply of natural resources that we haven’t really utilized until recently. Along come new techniques and our government thinks we ought to share and sell to China. The United States and Russia lead the world with 611 and 589 billion cubic meters per year, respectively. Canada is third with 152 billion and Iran is fourth with 139 billion cubic meters.

However, when it comes to proven reserves that determine the future, the picture is quite different! The world’s total known reserves are about 200 trillion cubic meters. Russia is the leader with 45 trillion cubic meters. Iran is second with 30 trillion meters. The United States is tied for third with three others who have less than 8 trillion cubic meters.

If you do the math it doesn’t make sense for our country to be selling our gas because our reserves would be gone in a short time.

Also, should we be selling our coal to China so they can use it to build more ships and airplanes? They recently celebrated having their first Chinese-built war plane landing on their first Chinese built aircraft carrier. They plan on having their first group of planes landing on aircraft carriers in two years. That is plural!

This comes at a time when Obama is cutting 50 billion dollars a year from our military. Where is the logic?
