Larson poster contest

Elizabeth Larson, an eighth grade student in Odessa is the state winner of the 2013 SunWise with SHADE Poster Contest. As the state winner, Larson will receive a digital camera. Larson's poster was chosen from thousands of entries by a panel of judges in Washington, D.C. as the top entry from Washington State. Larson is the daughter of Tim Larson, third grade teacher in Odessa and Jill Larson, first and second grade teacher in Wilson Creek.

Larson's poster includes the message "Red and peeling apples are good. Red and peeling skin is bad."

Now, Larson's poster will move on to represent Washington State in the national contest. The national winner will be determined through online voting open to everyone, including friends, family, school and community members. To vote, go to dcdonline.org/Vote/SHADE/1062/UnlockBallot. The unlock code is shade and the school code is vote13. Voting is open from April 24th to May 7th.

To promote the poster, it is advised to post the link on facebook , tweet about it on twitter, have the school put the poster on its website along with a link to vote for it. Other ideas are letting family and friends know they can help Larson win a family trip to Disney World and a Shade 'N Net shade structure for the school by voting online.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. with more than 3.5 million cases diagnosed annually. People can protect themselves from the sun by not burning, avoiding sun tanning and tanning beds, generously applying sunscreen, wearing protective clothing and seeking shade.
