2013 harvest a mixed bag

Harvest is just about over for the Odessa area, and it looks as though yields were down in some places and above average in others. Some farmers reported far more frost damage than they had anticipated. Especially when going through low-lying parts of their fields and then up onto hills, the change was sometimes quite dramatic.

Dryland wheat ranged from the low 30s to the mid-50s (bushels per acre). One Lamona-area field of dryland wheat farmed by Tom Evavold produced 69 bushels per acre. Some other fields of wheat planted on circles irrigated the previous year where potatoes were grown, yield...
