Life, liberty, pursuit of knowledge bring wisdom

“Without labor, neither knowledge nor wisdom can accomplish much.”

-FFA opening ceremonies, Advisor

In my pursuit of happiness I have found that, in great part, the aspect of that pursuit which has brought the most toil, yet by far the most satisfaction, is the collection of knowledge. Within every category of knowledge, there is so much to be known that there never will be a single being alive who can acquire every bit of fact about it. Thus, knowledge is never-ending. We can know nothing, yet we can never know everything.

When we seek to learn as much as we can before we expire, we have led a life of retaining facts, but the satisfaction comes from the ways in which we apply this knowledge in our lives, turning it from a long list of raw, random factoids to wisdom. In wisdom, we will find labor. There are great struggles, for most, which come to teach us what we must know in order that we may live on in wisdom. It takes the effort of an entire lifetime to come to the conclusions that we find from these lessons when we are older. This is why some say that the old are wise; but, in reality, those who have struggled are the ones who are wise.
