Track & Field

The Undeberg Invitational track and field meet was held Saturday, April 26, on the new all-weather track of Lind-Ritzville High School in Ritzville. Schools from 1B to 2A sizes competed, including one Idaho school, Lapwai High School, a 1A school.

Besides Odessa-Harrington, 11 other 1B schools in eastern Washington participated: Columbia Basin Secondary, Columbia-Hunters, Curlew, Cusick, Pomeroy, Republic, Rosalia, Selkirk, Soap Lake, Wellpinit and Wilbur-Creston. The 2B schools were Asotin, Colfax, Davenport, Dayton, DeSales, Kittitas, La Conner, Liberty-Spangle, Lind-Ritzville, Mary Walker, Reardan, St George's, St. John-Endicott, Tekoa/Oaksdale-Garfield/Palouse and Waitsburg-Prescott. Washington 1A schools were Columbia-Burbank, Lakeside, Medical Lake, Royal and Seattle Academy. Colville and Othello represented 2A schools.

Boys

The O-H boys finished in eighth place and for the first time this year added two relay teams to their roster.

Sam Schafer had a good day in the sprints, placing second in the 100 meters in 11.90a and first in the 200 meters in 23.78a.

Garret Braun was 42nd in the 100 with a time of 13.53a, while Nik Evans finished 31st in 27.22a.

In the 400, Nik Evans was 26th in 1:01.06a, and Cole Kissler was 36th in a time of 1:05.06a.

In the 800 meters, Jacob DeWulf was 20th (2:24.43a) and Tyler Paris 31st (2:34.95a). Paris also ran the 1600 meters, coming in 35th (5:42.51a).

In the 110-meter, 39" hurdles, Aaron Gies was 13th in a time of 20.24a, then ran the 300-meter, 36" hurdles in 50.86a for 15th place. Teammate John DeWulf managed 12th place in the same event in 49.63a.

The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Garret Braun, Tyler Paris, Nik Evans and Aaron Gies placed 15th in 50.56a, and the 4 x 400 relay team of Jacob DeWulf, Trevor King, John DeWulf and Cole Kissler was 17th in 4:21.28a.

In field events, Schafer got 8th place in the 12-pound shot put with a heave of 40-04.00, King was 21st with 36-00.75 and Colby Sooy was 54th with 29-04.50.

Sooy also threw the discus, coming in 42nd with 80-10. James Mann was 55th at 64-11. King also competed in the discus but did not place.

In the javelin, Braun was 17th with a throw of 127-04, Jacob DeWulf 21st with 122-11 and Evans 53rd with 97-03.

In the long jump, Braun was 15th with a leap of 17-05.00 and John Dewulf 28th with 16-04.50.

The triple jump saw Schafer nabbing 4th place with a jump of 39-11.25, Jacob DeWulf 10th with 35-09.75 and John DeWulf 14th with 34-08.00.

Girls

In the girls competition, the team score had the O-H Titans in last place.

In the 400 meters, Chelsea Fisher was 13th in 1:12.12a and Fee Pilger came in at 19th in 1:23.89a.

Running the 800 meters, Jenna Shafer finished 24th in 3:06.52a.

In the shot put, Chelsea Fisher finished in 8th place with a heave of 30-08.00 and Jenna Shafer was 43rd with 21-11.00. Shafer also took 42nd place in the discus with 58-04.

Shafer finished 15th in the javelin with a throw of 78-09.

In the long jump, Hannah Schmidt was 10th at 13-08.75, Carley Williams 13th at 13-01.75 and Fee Pilger 38th at 10-05.00.

The triple jump found Hannah Schmidt at 15th with 27-04.00 and Carley Williams at 16th with 27-03.00.

Baseball

Titans overcome Broncos

The Odessa-Harrington Titan offense ignited for 17 runs in a seven-inning baseball game that saw the opponent from Lind-Ritzville-Sprague also get its share of hits. The final score was 17-11.

The Titans took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Broncos came back and the lead changed several times throughout the game.

Leadoff batter Brad Johnston of O-H wound up with 2 RBIs on 3 hits and also reached base on a walk. Chance Messer had one hit for 2 RBIs and also walked once. Carsen Weber had 3 runs on 3 hits, including a double, for 2 RBIs, walked once and struck out once. Nathyn Winslow had 2 runs on 1 hit, 1 RBI and walked twice. Dakota Largent scored 2 runs on 1 hit, had 1 RBI, walked twice and was hit by a pitch. He also had a stolen base. Dillon Dennison had one run on one hit, 2 RBIs, walking twice and striking out once. Caleb Behrens scored 2 runs on 1 hit, a double, had 2 RBIs and walked twice. Jayd Jennings had 2 runs, 1 hit, 2 RBIs, walked once and was hit by a pitch. Jacob Montgomery got no hits but scored a run after getting on base once through a walk and once through an error.

Johnston pitched 3 innings, throwing 52 pitches of which 29 were strikes. He struck out 3 batters and walked one, allowing 1 run on 1 hit. Messer relieved Johnston in the fourth and in a little over 2 innings threw 51 pitches (31 strikes). He struck out 5 and walked none, allowing 1 run on 2 hits. Messer was relieved in turn by Weber who threw 79 pitches in a little over an inning (30 strikes). He struck out 2 and walked 9, allowing 9 runs on 3 hits. All three pitchers hit at least one batter, and Messer and Weber each had at least one wild pitch additionally credited to them.

Golf

Titan golf coach Sam Read reported that Griffey Powell led the Titans last week with a season best of 88 at Fairways Golf Course in Cheney on a windy, rainy and cold afternoon, April 22. It was enough to put him in eighth place in the nine-team, 52-man tournament.

Madison Charlton scored 93, Thorson Wehr 103, William Mann 110, Kiegan Wehr 110 and John Tanke 118.

Team scores were Colfax (452), Northwest Christian (466), Wilbur-Creston (473), Lind/Ritzville/Sprague (482), O-H (502), Davenport (538), Inchelium (550), Cusick (565) and St. Georges (no team score).

Medalist was Jimmy Somns of St. Georges with a score of 76.

O-H hosts at Harrington

The Titans hosted Davenport and the Lewis & Clark junior varsity team Thursday, April 24, in an 18-hole match at the Harrington Golf Course. The Titans and Davenport were each short two golfers, so team scores were calculated with just four golfers for each team. Team scores were O-H 416, LC-JV 420 and Davenport 422.

For the Titans, Charlton scored an 89, Thorson Wehr 101, Tanke 106 and Kiegan Wehr 120.

Medalist was Palmer Guhlke of Davenport at 80.

Titans get fourth place

At Deer Park Monday, April 28, another 18-hole tournament was hosted by NWC of Colbert.

For Odessa-Harrington, Charlton and Powell tied for the top spot with 87. Thorson Wehr shot 99, Mann 105, Tanke 111 and Kiegan Wehr 117 for a team total of 489, good enough for fourth place after Colfax (422), Lind/Ritzville/Sprague (463), NWC (483). Also competing were Wilbur-Creston, Inchelium, Davenport, St. Georges, Cusick, Columbia and ACH.

Medalist was again Davenport's Guhlke with a score of 71.
