Ronald E. Frederick

Ron Frederick died July 8, 2014 at his home in Odessa at the age of 78.

Ron was born May 30, 1936 in Odessa to Louis and Alma (Giese) Frederick. He attended school in Odessa until tenth grade, joined the U.S. Army at age 17 and had his 18th birthday in Korea during the Korean War. After the war he worked in Spokane at White Block Co. and Calkins Machinery, later moving back to Odessa to farm.

Ron later went to work for the Odessa Trading Company as a machine yard foreman. He left the Odessa Trading Company and became the VFW club manager and drove school bus. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier,retirin in December of 2007.

Ron married Shirley Jeske on September 22, 1956 in Odessa, and they had three children: Roger, Brad and Angie. Shirley passed away in 1982.

Ron later married Dorothy Iltz on October 1, 1983 in Odessa, and the two continued to live in Odessa until his death.

Ron was a member of the VFW, the National Rifle Association, the American Legion, the Odessa Gun Club, Christ Lutheran Church and the coffee group respectfully known as the "Old Cronies Coffee Klatsch."

As a Korean War veteran, he was honored to visit the Korean War Memorial in Washington D.C. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed trap shooting, music, playing guitar and at one time was in a local band and played at many weddings and other events. He was a ferocious card player, cigar enthusiast, Spokane Shock football fan, and enjoyed driving adventures and vacations with family and friends. A highlight for him was attending the 2001 Major League All Star Baseball game in Seattle. Ron loved the Lord and his family and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife Dorothy at the home; his children Roger Frederick, Brad (and Cathie) Frederick, Angie Frederick, Lorrie (and John) Walters and Jason (and Kaylene) Iltz; his 11 grandchildren, Derek, Jessica, Kara, Brice, Kurtis, Miranda, Chad, Hailey, Aleyna, JJ and Jaron; his three great grandchildren, Jocelyn, Carter and Blake; his brother Wayne Frederick and his many friends.

Ron is preceded in death by his first wife Shirley, brother Leland Frederick and sister Shirley Worley.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church, 601 Amende Dr., Odessa, with Pastors Tim Hauge and Jon Hayashi officiating.
