Camp Wooten gives kids time for learning, bonding

All Odessa sixth graders, teachers Julie Wehr and Tim Larson and parent chaperones Peggy DeWulf and Danielle Scrupps went to Camp Wooten September 23-26.

Camp Wooten is an environmental camp serving multiple schools. Activities involved hands-on science-related survival instruction and classes on soils, wind energy and wildlife. It was also a bonding time for the sixth-grade students who were paired up and spread out among the many cabins with kids from other schools. It was a fun time and the students had lots to share with each other when they came back together.

Attendance at the camp was made possible by a generous donation from the Edmund and Darlene Family Foundation. "It is my sincere hope that this camp will become a yearly event students can look forward to attending in sixth grade. Junior high can be a time of great change; a bonding camp like this can build positive class connections to last through graduation," said program director Julie Wehr.
