Full house at Lions Club crab feed

Although the high price of crab this year will keep the Odessa Lions Club from making the kind of money they normally do at their annual event, people nevertheless came out in droves to support the club's many civic activities and to enjoy crab that is fresher than any bought in a grocery store. Club member Jeff Schibel has a contact on the Washington coast who supplies the crab fresh from his boat. The crabs are cooked, cleaned and put on ice just prior to being picked up by Schibel and other club members on Saturday afternoon. Then they are transported directly to Odessa for the evening's meal.

For those unwilling or unable to enjoy seafood, the Odessa Riders Club members also cook up prime rib, served with au jus and the other sides provided for both meals: baked beans, potato salad, garlic bread and cake for dessert.

As has also been the tradition for several years now, Ted Bruya led the crowd through several "horse races," with dice providing the number of spaces the horses would move forward during the race.

Most folks just wanted to eat and visit with their neighbors, however. Club members put off eating until everyone else had been served. Some folks attended the basketball game in Harrington prior to coming to the crab feed, so the crowd continued to arrive throughout most of the evening.
