Titans compete well at Ray Cross Meet in Ephrata Saturday

In the first track and field meet of the season, the Titan teams did well against a mixture of smaller and larger schools at the Ray Cross Invitational held at Ephrata High School Saturday, March 21. The boys placed ninth, with 32 points, and the girls placed 12th with 18.5 points out of the 24 teams that competed.

Boys’ results

In the sprints, Odessa senior Sam Schafer continued his successful efforts, taking second in the 100 meters in 11.99 seconds and first place in the 200 meters in 23.81 seconds. Freshman Gaven Elder was 14th in the 100 in 12.46 and 20th in the 200 in 25.78.

In the 400 meters, John Dewulf took 20th in 1:01.57, and Cole Kissler was 22nd in 1:03.74.

Tyler Paris ran the 800 meters in 2:31.53, placing 30th, and the 1600 meters in 5:42.86 for 29th place.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Aaron Gies was ninth in 18.82 seconds.

The 300-meter hurdles had John Dewulf in 12th place in a time of 48.40, while Gies finished 18th in 51.50.

In the shot put, Odessa’s Colby Sooy was 33rd with a heave of 31-00.50, and Harrington’s James Mann was 41st at 24-11.00.

In the discus, Sooy finished in 20th place at 95-10 and Mann was 37the at 72-08.

In the javelin, Cole Kissler was 22nd at 102-09, and Tyler Paris was 37th at 79-03.

Harrington’s Connor Perry was 14th in the high jump at 5-02.00. Gaven Elder also competed but had no score.

Kissler was seventh in the pole vault at 9-00.00.

Sam Schafer took third in the long jump with 20-00.25, and Elder came in 12th at 17-05.50.

In the triple jump, John DeWulf was third with a leap of 39-06.25.

Girls’ results

Harrington senior Jordyn Tanke competed in the sprints for the girls, coming in at seventh place in the 100 meters in 13.98 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters in 28.86.

In the 800 meters, Harrington’s Amber Smith was 15th in 3:02.75.

Odessa’s Shelbey Watkins was 19th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 20.52.

In the shot put Jenna Shafer was 22nd with a heave of 24-07.50, and Evie Mann was in 32nd place with 21-06.00.

Casey Schlomer was 12th in the discus with a throw of 80-03, and Jenna Shafer was 26th with 68-01.

In the javelin, Shafer was eighth with a throw of 91-04 and Schlomer was ninth with 90-09.

Coming in at 11th place in the high jump was Lanessa Simon at a height of 4-06.00, while Shelbey Watkins was 18th at four feet even.

In the pole vault, Simon was eighth at a height of 7-00.00, and Schlomer was 11th at 6-00.00.

Simon was third in the long jump at 15-00.00, while Watkins was in 31st place at 11-07.50.

Simon was fourth in the triple jump at 32-01.75, and Amber Smith was 22nd at 25-11.75.
