Wine tasting almost here

The annual Odessa Healthcare Foundation Wine Tasting and Auction would not be successful without the many donations from the employees of the Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center, as well as other individuals and businesses of Odessa and the surrounding area.

Many talented artisans have generously donated handcrafted items to the 24th annual Odessa Healthcare Foundation Wine Tasting and Auction. This is by no means a complete list, but just a sampling of what you will find at both the silent and live auction Friday, May 1, 2015.

The talented quilters in our community have made donations that you won’t want to miss. Look for a hand-appliqued quilt called “Yellow Tulips” by Alva Richardson. Experience Quilts! has donated a quilt pieced by Patricia Gies and machine-quilted by Lise Ott, titled “Have A Happy Scrappy Christmas.” A twin-sized quilt, titled “Dancing in the Dark,” featuring a black floral fabric with pink, green, and creamy accents in a lattice design, has been donated by the Fronen Steppdecker Quilt Club of Odessa.

Do you need something new for your home or yard? The auction just might have what you are looking for. Cindy Gillett, Danielle Scrupps’ mother, has created an original pastel titled “Poppies Down Under.” Angie Jones, wife of local physician’s assistant Danny Jones, has donated three of her whimsical paintings, “Cherry Blossom Moon,” “Pink” and “Tree Swing.” Paul Hopp has handcrafted and donated a Wooden Patio Cooler, and Pam Williams donated a hand-painted stepping-stone. Laurie Wilson, from Walter Implement, has created two pieces of fanciful yard art and a plant stand. Coby Foust of Colville, Mandi Braun’s cousin, handcrafted the Hair Haus’ donation, a metal art dinner bell. Plants grown in the greenhouse by the Odessa High School FFA chapter will also be available.

Looking for something to eat? You will have a chance to bid on Doug Starkel’s smoked turkeys, Dr. Linda Powell’s homemade jam and Donna Thrall’s dill pickles. For those with a sweet tooth, look for Almond Roca by Corrine Schuh and Pat Estes’ Fabulous Fudge. Or maybe you would prefer a tray of Grannie BarBar’s cinnamon rolls or a Mother’s Day basket of her delicious baked goods. Do you need a graduation cake? Maria Schuh will bake and decorate a cake for you this June.

The bidding on Dr. Linda Powell’s cheesecakes is always fierce, and the dessert auction continues to be very popular. This year it will feature Jena Meise’s Magically Delicious No Bake Ice Box Pie; Kerry Scheller’s Gourmet Cupcakes plus a Carrot Cake; Deborah Walter’s Chocolate Raspberry Cake, Cookie Dough Truffles and Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse Cheesecake; Charlene Kagele’s Rhubarb Custard Pie; and a Jack Daniels Honey Whiskey Trifle with a Bourbon Drizzle by Ellen Holman.

The Odessa Healthcare Foundation knows the public looks forward to seeing these handcrafted items and bidding on them on Friday May 1, 2015. Remember, advance tickets can be purchased online at http://omhf.maestroweb.com or by calling Carol Schott at 509-982-2157.
