2015 float ready for season

The Odessa Community Float will take its maiden voyage of 2015 through the streets of town Thursday, May 14, at dusk in anticipation of this Saturday’s Lilac Parade in Spokane, said float committee chairman Justin Parr. The Odessa Jr./Sr. High School Band will also perform Saturday and has been practicing on Odessa’s streets for some time now.

Miss Odessa High School junior Casey Schlomer, daughter of Joe Schlomer and Amy Schaefer, will ride the float Thursday for the trial run and again Saturday in the Spokane parade. This year the float has a beach/luau theme of “Fun in the Sun.”

The Odessa Community Float travels to many parades and festivals throughout the local area over the spring and summer months, promoting Odessa and its three-day Deutschesfest event held in September. The communities visited by Odessa’s float then (usually) return the favor and appear in the Deutschesfest parade.

Community members are invited to listen for the fire department sirens at approximately 8 p.m. and watch the float, which will begin its inaugural trip through the town for 2015.
