Don Frick marks 75 years of harvest in Ruff/Marlin area

Don Frick, currently a resident of Ephrata, turned 86 years old this Spring. During this year's harvest, he drove his John Deere 7720 combine for the 75th time.

His first harvest was in 1941 when he was 12 years old and his job was to hang the sacks on a Harris pull combine. He remembered that his uncle, Jake Frick was on the combine, making sure that it ran smoothly. Henry Kallenberger was sewing the sacks, but he couldn't remember who ran the header puncher. He was working for his father, Fred Frick, and they were harvesting a crop southwest of Ruff, where Walt Spies farmed in later years.

This year, he is working with his son, Tom Frick, and grandson, Ryan Frick. His great grandsons, Conrad and Griffin Bell were also there to help for a few days.
