The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.

Monday, July 27: No one was reported injured after two vehicles collided on SR 231 near the intersection of Little Falls Road north of Reardan.

A man of about 70 years of age prompted concern in Almira while going door-to-door on West Chestnut Street with “gifts” but refusing to identify himself or the nature of the gifts.

While attempting to pass a county road crew, a vehicle went off Old Kucks Road near its intersection with SR 28 south of Harrington and went into a ditch, getting stuck in soft, newly laid gravel. A tow truck was called to get the vehicle out.

Wearing a bright green shirt, a man who didn’t belong there was observed in a pasture adjacent to Hart Road north of Davenport.

Deputies looked for a vehicle and its erratic driver who was observed with an open container in his hand and beating a dog while traveling west on U.S. 2 in the Reardan area.

A driver was cited after a vehicle was observed traveling west of U.S. 2 near Reardan at high speeds and stopped in Davenport in the vicinity of SR 25.

Deputies investigated a report of illegal placement of garbage in someone else’s dumpster in the 600 block of West Main Street in Harrington.

Wilbur Police responded to a local woman’s second observation of wolves running through a yard in the 700 block of SE Railroad. A game camera was set up “to see what might be out there.”

Responding to a call from the 200 block of West 2nd Avenue, Odessa Police dealt with a verbal dispute involving a married couple.

Tuesday, July 28: A Davenport man reported receiving threatening, profane and disturbing messages on his cell phone.

A deputy responded to a report of an illegal burn barrel being used in the 36000 block of Crescent Road.

A Davenport woman reported threatening phone calls from someone who had been recently asked to leave the residence.

Wednesday, July 29: A collision occurred between a deer and a van and trailer on Hills Road near Davenport.

A deputy was involved in a “juvenile problem” with a 17-year-old girl who ran away to Spokane from a Harrington area residence.

Deputies investigated a possible residential burglary in the 200 block of SW 2nd in Creston.

Two vehicles collided on Morgan Street in Davenport near Trader’s Express.

Deputies, firefighters and other personnel responded to a fire in the vicinity of Miles Creston and north Telford roads west of Davenport. Elsewhere, a field fire threatened structures near the intersection of Denny Station and Gravelle roads east of Davenport.

Odessa Police responded to a report from the vicinity of 1st and Alder that a man had fallen and was bleeding from his forehead.

National Park Service and state Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel responded to a report of an abandoned moose calf at the Keller Ferry campground’s group site.

Thursday, July 30: A Creston area woman believes she may have been a victim of identity theft.

Davenport and Harrington firefighters extinguished a wheat truck engine that caught fire on SR 28 north of Harrington. At one point, flames threatened to move into the nearby grass and the highway was closed briefly.

An unoccupied vehicle rolled and struck another that had its driver inside while parked in the Davenport Safeway parking lot. The other driver, who was summoned from inside the store, exchanged insurance information.

Two individuals were cited for third-degree theft and trespassed from Davenport Good Neighbor Pharmacy after deputies responded to a shoplifting incident.

Calling from Idaho, a woman expressed concern about her daughter, who lives in the Odessa area, who she said had been making suicidal comments.

Odessa Police investigated a woman’s report that prescription medications had been taken from a residence in the 400 block of East 3rd Avenue.

Friday, July 31: Davenport ambulance personnel transported a man who had a bloody nose to Lincoln Hospital for treatment.

Sprague firefighters and ambulance personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 90. MedStar aerial ambulance also was launched and Adams County first responders assisted with extrication that was deemed necessary. Traffic in the westbound lanes was backed up for a time.

A Davenport woman reported receiving a call from a blocked phone number during which the caller claimed to be with Lincoln County and threatened to send her to collections unless she “called back before calling anyone else.”

Firefighters from Almira, Harrington, Creston, Sprague and the state Department of Natural Resources joined other emergency personnel to battle a field fire in the vicinity of SR 21 and Eagle Springs Road. Several residents of the area were either evacuated for a time or not permitted to go to their homes.

A man in his late teens or early 20s was observed “engaging young girls” at the Davenport Water Park.

Reardan EMTs joined Wellpinit ambulance personnel to respond to a one-vehicle rollover collision, with possibly two persons hurt, on SR 231 near Little Falls Road.

Reardan firefighters helped evacuate residents affected by the Long Lake fire in Spokane County. Reardan High School was opened for this purpose and as a headquarters for emergency personnel coming from throughout the state to assist.

A caller from Lincoln reported gunshots in the vicinity of Skyview Court.

Emergency personnel assisted a 76-year-old woman who began bleeding from her leg after falling off a porch in the vicinity of Whispering Pines Loop.

Wilbur Police responded to complaints of loud noise, arguments and a toddler’s cries in the 700 block of SE Railroad Avenue.

Three juveniles were suspects in a marijuana possession incident in the 700 block of SE Pope to which Wilbur Police responded.

Reardan Police reported nothing was taken after responding to an attempted burglary.

Saturday, Aug. 1: A woman was taken to the hospital after losing consciousness at a residence on Kiner Road near Almira.

Responding to the 300 block of West 2nd Street, Sprague emergency personnel assisted an individual suffering chest pains.

A deputy encountered an abandoned vehicle on SR 231 that appeared to have been involved in a rollover collision on Tramm Road east of Reardan.

A deputy responded to a dispute involving residents of the Sterling Point area north of Creston concerning a pile of wood that had been placed on the Prospector Xing roadway in an apparent attempt to restrict access.

Deputies investigated a residential burglary in the 1100 block of Adams Street in Davenport. Prescription medications were reported taken.

A man who appeared “barely able to keep his eyes open” while driving a vehicle also occupied by an unsecured 2-year-old child was eventually stopped in Sprague by the Washington State Patrol and placed into custody for driving under the influence and reckless endangerment.

Deputies placed a woman into custody for driving under the influence after a traffic stop on SR 25 at Hart Road.

Sprague/Lincoln County Fire District 1 firefighters, along with their colleagues from Edwall, Adams and Whitman counties, the state Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and other agencies, responded to a fire near the Interstate 90 eastbound on-ramp at the Sprague exit. At one point, flames head southeast towards the local airport (near the fire station); winds pushed them away from the city of Sprague. The Old Sprague Highway had to be shut down to normal traffic for a time. Aerial resources also were used to help extinguish the blaze.

No one was reported hurt as a result of a collision involving a deer and vehicle on SR 21 in the Wilbur area. Elsewhere, a county patrol car was damaged when the deputy driving it struck a deer on SR 28 near Odessa, and another caller reported a collision involving a deer on SR 2 near Creston.

National Park Service personnel responded to a report of a canoe theft at the Hawk Creek campground.

Sunday, Aug. 2: A caller reported seeing a semi-truck driver traveling on Interstate 90 in Lincoln County tossing a cigarette from his window. The State Patrol was advised.

A Davenport woman reported the theft of $50 and prescription medications from her purse while at a residence in the 800 block of Sinclair Street.

A man told dispatchers he accidentally locked two dogs and his keys inside a vehicle parked at Edna’s Drive-in in Davenport. A responding deputy was successful in getting a car door opened.

A deputy intercepted a vehicle at U.S. 2 and Fitzpatrick Road west of Davenport after a caller observed something that appeared to be a can of beer thrown from a window and into the middle of the roadway while the vehicle about a mile east of Oehlwein Road.

A caller reported his vehicle almost run off SR 25 by another vehicle about five miles north of Davenport. A deputy caught up with the suspect vehicle at the intersection of SR 25 and U.S. 2.

A Davenport woman reported medication and a ring missing from a residence in the 500 block of Merriam Street. When asked about it, a teenage boy at the residence became angry, punched holes in a wall and left.

National Park Service personnel arranged to tow a boat occupied by three adults and a 3-year-old child in the Sterling Point area.

Criminal Sentencings

Jodi L. Bankston, 39, and Wilburt Allen Bankston II, 46, of Davenport, both pleaded guilty July 28 to third-degree theft (amended through plea negotiations from theft of rental, leased, lease-purchased or loaned property). Their dispositions included a $5,000 fine and 364 days jail, both suspended, along with shared restitution of $3,492 to Hickory Hollow Rentals LLC of Murfeesboro, Tenn., $700 court costs and 12 months probation. Additionally, Mr. Bankston must pay $500 for reimbursement of attorney fees. The charge is connected with a complaint from earlier this year involving unpaid rent of $17,187 on three storage sheds allegedly being used as living quarters on property adjacent to Mill Canyon Road northwest of Davenport.

Dale Lee Rhea (III), 26, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, pleaded guilty July 28 to attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle in connection with the May 28 high-speed pursuit by deputies of an allegedly stolen pickup truck on SR 231 between the Spokane County line and into the Town of Reardan. An additional charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle was dismissed as a result of plea negotiations. His disposition includes two months jail (with time served credited), along with $800 court costs plus attorney fees. He also is prohibited from possessing firearms and his driver’s license was revoked. “I don’t have complete recollection” (of the incident), he wrote in his plea statement, “but am convinced (I did it) after talking with my attorney and reading the police report.”

Civil Judgments

Finding no support for domestic violence, the court denied a petition from Justine C. Bertelsen, of Republic, Wash., for a protection order against Brady S. Hearrean, of Creston, but offered a restraining order in a “domestic action” should either party wish.

The court denied a request from Kitty M. Scharff for a sexual assault protection order against Eddy Murphy, of Davenport.

New Criminal Cases

Jessica Ferne Stonehouse, 24, of Spokane and Wilbur, is charged with residential burglary in connection with a June 29 incident at a residence on Baldridge Road northeast of Davenport. After allegedly breaking through a side window to gain entry, she fell and was transported to Lincoln Hospital for treatment after her arrest. A ring valued at $150, a purse and items of clothing were reported taken from the residence.

Trenton Edward Frye, 22, of Wilbur, is charged with possession of methamphetamine and hydrocodone in connection with a March 24 break-in at a residence on Cliff Avenue in Wilbur, originally described by local police as a malicious mischief incident.

An Aug. 11 hearing is scheduled to consider a petition from Steven D. Roger, of Reardan, for a domestic violence protection order against Ashley M. Welch.
