Veterans Day activities in Odessa, Harrington

The Odessa and Harrington School Districts will each have special Veterans Day assemblies at their respective schools on Tuesday, November 10. There will be no school for either district on Wednesday, November 11.

The Odessa School District will hold its assembly honoring veterans at 12:30 p.m. in the school multipurpose room. Local veterans will be honored guests, and the general public is also invited to attend.

The Harrington School District will hold a Veterans Day assembly at 10:15 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. The elementary and high school art students will show their work commemorating the (just completed) 200th anniversary of “The Star Spangled Banner.” The secondary school band will play to recognize U.S. military branches, while the fourth-sixth-grade choir will lead the audience in the singing of the national anthem. The K-1 students will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. There will be plenty of student involvement and student leadership in this year’s program. The district is also honored to have veteran Bill Dehler give the keynote presentation.

As reported last week, on Veterans Day itself, November 11, Odessa’s American Legion Post #105 and VFW Post #7395 will sponsor a turkey dinner at 6 p.m. in the basement of Heritage Church. Turkey, gravy, stuffing and potatoes will be provided by the posts and prepared by members of their respective auxiliaries, while community members are invited to bring additional items such as salads, side dishes and desserts.
