O-H Titan volleyball team seeded #2 at state tourney

The Odessa-Harrington volleyball team had an exciting yet tiring weekend when they won all three district playoff games and moved on to state as the second place seed behind #1 seeded Almira/Coulee-Hartline.

The lady Titans played a total of three matches in eight hours Saturday, November, 7 at Northwest Christian High School in Colbert (Spokane), starting the first match at 11 a.m. and the last match at 7 p.m. Any match played after Saturday was a loser-out match.

Against Republic in the day’s first contest, the Titans took the match in three straight games.

Katie DeWulf led the Titans with 36 digs and three aces. Shelbey Watkins had 16 assists and tied with Zoe Clark for the lead in blocks with three. Isabelle Phillips led with three aces, and Lanessa Simon led with 10 kills.

Following the Republic game, the Titans played Valley Christian in a hard-fought match that went to five games.

Clark and DeWulf had three aces apiece, while DeWulf also led the team with 30 digs. Watkins contributed the most assists at 21, Maleah Davison had one block and Casey Schlomer led her teammates with 17 kills.

The third and final match for the Lady Titans was another win in three straight games against Cusick.

DeWulf led the Titans with six aces and 31 digs. Phillips led with 14 assists, Davison with four blocks and Simon with 13 kills.

The Titans finished their season this year with an overall record of 16-3. Next on the agenda for them is to play 22-5 Christian Faith School of Federal Way in the first round of the state tournament at the Sun Dome in Yakima at 1:30 p.m. on November 13.

If the Titans win that first game, they will then play the winner of the Thorp-Easton vs. Providence Classical Christian game later the same evening (8:15 p.m.). If the Titans lose, they will play the loser of the same contest at 5 p.m. later that same day.

Other 1B competitors at state this year are Evergreen Lutheran, Pateros, Lyle-Wishram, Mount Vernon Christian, Quilcene, Pomeroy, Three Rivers Christian, Almira-Coulee-Hartline, Oaksdale, Naselle, Neah Bay and Sunnyside Christian.
