King wins scholarship

Terri King, business teacher at Odessa High School, was recently awarded a $500 scholarship by Northwest Professional Educators, the state's only non-union professional teacher association. Its regional director Brenda Miller presented the award at an all-school staff meeting. King will use the funds to attend the 2016 Northwest Council of Computer Education Conference with special interest in learning how to integrate technology into the curriculum and digital literacy.

"Ms. King's award is certainly well deserved as she seeks ways to increase student achievement and her own professional development," said Cindy Omlin, the group's executive director. "Northwest Professional Educators is proud to reward educators for their hard work and creativity."

The organization awards teacher scholarships and classroom grants up to $500, as well as $250 new classroom start-up grants. All educators are eligible for the awards although members of the organization receive first preference. The application deadlines for awards up to $500 are October 1 and March 1, while December 31 is the deadline for new classroom start up grants.
