Classroom watches new life begin

The classroom of Kindergarten/first grade pupils taught by Taunya Sanford spent the month of March learning about how life begins. With the help of Linda Colbert, students put fertilized eggs into an incubator in the classroom and began the 21-day count to hatching.

While waiting for the eggs to hatch, the children read books on chickens and completed journal activities documenting what was learned. The class took a field trip to visit four different chicken coops at four Harrington area farms. Becky Schenk, Virginia Fries, Jo Colbert and Julie Jacobsen provided farm tours. The chicks began arriving on March 21, right on schedule. The children enjoyed watching these new lives begin before sending the chicks to live on a variety of farms near Harrington.
