Primary election results summarized

The results of the August 2, 2016 primary election in Lincoln County and statewide are provided below.

The ballot count was last updated on August 5 with 46 precincts reporting. Out of the 6,809 registered voters, only 2,923 cast their ballots. The final ballot count will be on August 15 at 4 p.m.

Voter turnout was 42.93 percent. The election will be certified August 16, 2016.

U.S. Senator

In the race for United States Senator, Republican Chris Vance tallied 1,081 votes or 39.4%, Democrat Patty Murray 864 votes or 31.49% and Eric John Makus (also Republican) had 240 votes or 8.75%. The remaining candidates all received less than 8.75% of the vote.

Statewide, Vance tallied 363,200 votes for 27.63% and Murray 707,330 votes for 53.82%, while the remaining candidates received 4.9% of the vote or less.

5th District Representative

In the Congressional District 5 U.S. Representative race, independent candidate Dave Wilson had 228 votes or 7.96%, Republican Tom Horne had 452 votes or 15.78%, Democrat Joe Pakootas had 589 votes or 20.56% and Libertarian Krystol McGee had 48 votes or 1.68%, while Republican incumbent Cathy McMorris Rodgers tallied 1,548 votes or 54.03% in Lincoln County.

Statewide, Wilson had 17,977 votes or 13.36%, Horne 14,857 or 11.04%, Pakootas 42,600 votes or 31.65%, McGee 2,494 votes or 1.85% and McMorris Rodgers 56,676 votes or 42.11%.

Governor/Lt. Governor

In the race for Washington state governor, Democratic Jay Inslee had 649 votes or 22.96% to Republican Bill Bryant’s 1,813 or 64.13% in Lincoln County. Several other candidates garnered 6 percent of the vote or less.

Statewide, Inslee led with 651,627 votes (49.25%) to Bryant’s 508,852 (38.46%).

Republican Marty McClendon was the top vote-getter in Lincoln County for Lt. Governor with 992 votes or 39.21%, while Democrat Steve Hobbs garnered 369 votes (14.58%). Statewide, Democrat Cyrus Habib led with 276,326 (22%), while McClendon followed with 242,385 votes (19.3%), leaving the other candidate out of the running in November.

Secretary of State

For Washington’s Secretary of State, Democrat Tina Podlodowski had 575 votes (21.39%) to Republican Kim Wyman’s 1,967 (73.18%) in Lincoln County. Statewide, the race was much closer with Podlodowski receiving 588,313 votes (46.01%) to Wyman’s 614,898 (48.09%).

State treasurer

In the race for treasurer, Republican Duane Davidson drew 973 votes (39.03%) and fellow Republican Michael Waite had 931 (37.34%). In statewide balloting, Davidson led with 307,378 (25.21%) to Waite’s 284,896 (23.37%).

State auditor

Republican Mark Miloscia led in Lincoln County with 1,556 votes (60.15%) over Democrat Pat (Patrice) McCarthy with 455 (17.59%). In the statewide race, Miloscia led with 459,312 votes (36.87%) to McCarthy’s 364,138 (29.23%).

State attorney general

Democrat Bob Ferguson drew 1,178 votes (52.33%) in Lincoln County to Libertarian Joshua B. Trumbull’s 1,073 (47.67%). Statewide, Ferguson vastly outnumbered his opponent with 860,794 votes (72.64%), while Trumbull had 324,191 (27.36%). The two will face off again in November.

Commissioner of

Public Lands

Republican Steve McLaughlin received 1,827 votes (68.76%) in Lincoln County, while Democratic Mary Verner, the former mayor of Spokane, had 363 votes (13.66%). Statewide, McLaughlin garnered 471,810 votes (38.16%), while Democrat Hilary Franz cam in second with 279,336 (22.59%) to earn a spot on the November ballot.

Superintendent of

Public Instruction

Ron Higgins led in the county with 709 votes or 35.03%, with Robin Fleming coming in second at 381 votes or 18.82%. Statewide, Erin Jones led all candidates with 276,904 votes or 25.46%, while Chris Reykdal came in second with 228,367 or 21%.

Insurance Commissioner

In Lincoln County, Democrat Mike Kreidler received 721 votes (27.67%), and Republican Richard Schrock received 1,696 or 65.08%. Statewide, Kreidler tallied 732,158 (58.32%) to Schrock’s 430,112 (34.26%).

Legislative District 13 State Representative Pos. 1

Moses Lake Republican Tom Dent was unopposed and drew 2,337 votes in Lincoln County and 16,744 throughout the district.

Legislative District 13 State Representative Pos. 2

In Lincoln County, Republican Matt Manweller led with 2,060 votes (76.81%) over Democrat Jordan Webb with 622 (23.19%). In district-wide voting, Manweller garnered 14,546 votes (70.39%) to Webb’s 6,119 (29.61%).

County commissioner 1/2

Mark R. Stedman and Scott Hutsell, both Republicans, were unopposed and received votes of 838 and 636, respectively.

Supreme Court Justice

Position 5

Barbara Madsen led in Lincoln County with 1,143 votes (51.44%), while Greg Zempel had 906 (40.77%). Statewide, Madsen garnered 721,297 votes (63.93%) to Zempel’s 335,329 (29.72%).
