Boys #1 at regional meet; girls tie for #7

The NE/SE 1B regional track and field meet was held Friday and Saturday, May 19/20 at Central Valley High School in Veradale (Spokane). The Odessa-Harrington boys continued their winning ways following last week’s first-place finish at the district meet and won the regional championship trophy. The girls’ team tied for seventh place with LaCrosse-Washtucna-Kahlotus.

Following this regional meet, several Titan tracksters qualified for the state meet to be held at Eastern Washington University in Cheney next weekend.

From the girls’ team, Tori Weishaar qualified in the pole vault; Weishaar, Josie Westmoreland, Maddy Wagner and Shelbey Watkins (with Caitlyn Schuh as alternate) will compete in the 4x200-meter relay; Schuh in the discus and Westmoreland in the 200-meter run.

On the boys’ team, John DeWulf qualified in four events: pole vault, shot put, javelin and triple jump. Aaron Gies will compete in three events, the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and the 4x100-meter relay.

Colby Sooy qualified in both discus and shot put.

Gaven Elder will compete in four events: the 100-meters, 200 meters, long jump and 4x100-meter relay.

Cole Kissler and Jonny Hayashi will join Elder and Gies on the 4x100-meter relay team.
