Honie Bobetta Gies

Honie Bobetta Gies, age 75, of Kirkland, Wash. passed away peacefully on May 3, 2017 in Hawaii surrounded by her entire adoring family. She was born in Seattle on July 21, 1941, the only child of Thorne and Bobetta MacArthur.

Honie grew up in Seattle and then moved to Kirkland to be closer to her horse and the equestrian activities in which she was deeply involved. She graduated from Lake Washington High School and attended the University of Washington.

Honie married Robert Harold (Bob) Gies on February 10, 1962. They were married for over 55 years and spent their entire married life living in Kirkland.

Based on her love for children, Honie volunteered and worked for many years as an administrative assistant within the Lake Washington School District. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and later Holy Spirit Lutheran Church (both in Kirkland) during her adult life. She was an avid sports fan of the University of Washington and Seattle professional sports teams. Honie, along with her husband, spent many years traveling the world. She also loved living part time in Hawaii, fishing and spending time with family.

Honie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Bob; daughter Kandy (Ken); son David (Shannon); and grandsons Luke and Levi.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A private family burial service will be held Wednesday, June 7, at the Odessa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is caring for the family.
