King named male athlete of the year for small schools

Team of the year honors

SPOKANE — At the 2019-2020 Spokane Youth Sports Awards live-streamed over the Internet last Friday evening, the Odessa High School football team was named the 1B/2B/1A Top Male High School Sports Team, edging out the Odessa basketball team and the Almira-Coulee-Hartline baseball team for the top honor. Marcus King was selected the 1B/2B/1A High School Sports Top Male Athlete over three other nominees, including fellow Odessa senior and basketball teammate Ryan Moffet (whose older sister Charli is married to Marcus’s brother Jared).

Marcus King had great success throughout his high school career participating in three different sports all four years (football, basketball and baseball). As a senior he dominated the field in football as a running back and was no slouch on defense either. Ryan Moffet must have run a close second, because he, too, had a dominant senior season in basketball and became the state’s leading all-time scorer with 3,216 points competing against players from 1B to 4A schools.

It was a big night for Odessa’s athletes. The boys were treated to a group dinner and live-streaming of the awards ceremony at the home of Todd and Terri King, Marcus’s parents.
