100 years ago

• A fire starting from a furnace in the boiler room burned down the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport.

• J.J. Janke, a farmer south of Odessa, froze to death after an automobile accident three-fourths of a mile from his home. Area temperatures in the area were as low as 11 below.

• The Davenport Times-Tribune office was backed into by the Allen Grocery company delivery car after delivery boy Leo Allen left the car parked on the top of the hill, where it slid into the building.

75 years ago

• A record amount of snowfall fell, with 32.1 inches measured in December.

• 115 people were booked into Lincoln County Jail for the year, most of whom were charged with drunkenness.

Reardan easily took first place in the third annual Lions Club Christmas Tournament.

50 years ago

• A state hearing was held in Wilbur to discuss whether high volatile 2,3-D would be banned for a year.

• Three Harrington High School girls were hospitalized after they and eight classmates were injured in a van-tanker truck crash near Ritzville.

Davenport city council hired Frank Foley as city policeman.

25 years ago

• County elected officials took their oath of office, including Commissioner Ted Hopkins, Auditor Shelly Johnston, Prosecutor Ron Shepherd, Treasurer Linda Fisher, Clerk Joyce • Denison, Assessor Frosty Freeze and Sheriff John Coley.

• Lincoln County received no areas of noncompliance after an audit from the state.

• Joyce Stubbs retired after 27 years of teaching in Davenport.

10 years ago

• One death was linked to the flu in Lincoln County.

Davenport High principal Chad Prewitt was named 2013 Educator of the Year by the International Student Exchange. Superintendent Jim Kowalkowski traveled to Rome to accept the award on his behalf.

• Mark Stedman moved to the center seat of the County Commissioner dais as new commission chairman.
