David Orlyn Gunning, born on Oct. 6, 1962, in Spokane, Wash., passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Jan. 15, 2024. David was the beloved son of Richard and the late Shirley Gunning. He left a lasting impact on the lives of those around him and will be dearly missed.

David's journey began in Davenport, Wash., where he graduated from Davenport High School in 1981. He further pursued his passion for hydraulics at Spokane Community College, earning a degree that would shape his professional path.

In 1989, David embarked on a beautiful journey of love and commitment, marrying Gaylyn Goble. Together, they were blessed with three sons, Sam, Seth, and Luke. David's dedication to his family was unwavering, and his love for them knew no bounds.

Over the years, David's life took him to various places, from Phoenix, Arizona to Sacramento, California, before finding a lasting home in Renton, Wash. He embraced life's adventures and cherished the bonds he formed with friends and people from all walks of life.

A man of diverse passions, David found joy in sports, family gatherings, refereeing and coaching basketball, and working security for the Seattle Mariners. The serenity of Lake Roosevelt held a special place in his heart, where he spent cherished moments.

On July 2, 2021, David began a new chapter in his life, marrying Brenda Larson. He adored his expanded family, including his granddaughters Emmy, Norah, and Leia. His heart overflowed with love for those who became part of his life's tapestry.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley, but his memory lives on through his wife Brenda, sons Sam, Seth, and Luke. He is also survived by his brothers John (Tracy), Dan, and Jeff (Ashley), step-children Haley (Chris) and Zach (Maggie), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of David's life will take place at Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport on Feb. 3rd at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, honoring David's memory and supporting cancer research. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
