Clay target league discussed

ODESSA — The local school board approved six action items and heard updates from district administration at its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, Jan. 24.

The board approved the second reading of a policy regarding students on governing boards. Also approved were second semester business education teacher contracts and an overnight trip for the senior class to Silver Mountain.

In sports, the board unanimously agreed to allow a new community-based clay target league to use the school logo and also approved the hire of Travis Powers as high school assistant baseball coach.

In administrative reports, principal Cori Kane said secondary students are starting to develop High School and Beyond plans. She said she’s working with the Gun Club to start a new community clay target league.

Operations supervisor Justin Parr said Avista repaired electrical damage after a power outage during winter break. He and superintendent Steve Fisk also said the district didn’t receive grant funding to replace playground funding and therefore will be researching alternative funding options.

The board agreed to hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. in the high school library Wednesday, Feb. 28. A workshop will precede the meeting at 5:15 p.m.
