School board hears District updates

Three items approved

DAVENPORT — With the special election 12 days away as of Thursday’s press day, the School Board heard updates from superintendent Chad Prewitt regarding the last year and what the two replacement levies the District hopes to pass Feb. 13 will fund.

Like other levies being posed to voters in Reardan, Edwall, Harrington and Odessa, educational programs and operations levies help fund safety officer positions, some curriculum, materials, extra and co-curricular activities like sports, choir and FBLA, bus travel and some staff salaries.

In Davenport, the School District is seeking passage of a 4-year replacement EP&O levy amounting to an estimated $2.30 per $1,000 assessed property value and a 4-year capital projects levy totaling an estimated $1.00 per $1,000 assessed property value.

Prewitt shared viewed successes of the District in the past year, including FFA’s initial trip to Nationals, the boys basketball state championship, the hiring of school resource officer Dain Harden and more, noting all were funded through the levies.

In action items, the Board approved this year’s spring sports coaches, accepted a $1,140 donation from the Hawk Creek Community to help pay off student lunch debt and approved early notification incentives.

The District offers a financial incentive to employees who inform the District of their departure at the end of the school year by March 15.

The School Board’s next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26.
