    HOHS meeting On April 3, the Harrington Opera House Society met for a contractual discussion followed by its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in the Art Room.   • Babysitting class certifies 12 youngsters

    On the first day of spring break, April 3, 2017, 12 students spent the day in the basement of the Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center becoming certificated babysitters. This brings the total to 93 students who have participated in a Babysitting Basics class. Beginning in 2010, the Odessa Healthcare Foundation, as part of its goal to provide health education to the community, began sponsoring this class for youth interested in improving their skills as babysitters.     Odessa Lodge No. 156, Free and Accepted Masons, held their annual, "Bikes-for-Books" drawing at the Odessa School, Friday, March 31. Students that reached a given reading goal were entered into the drawing for the bikes. This year's winners were Ashley Zagelow and Troy Hardung, both of the third-grade class.     Patricia Ann Kissler passed away on April 2, 2017 in Spokane. Her home was in Odessa. Patricia was born February 23, 1943 in Odessa to Samuel and Anna Marie (Ramm) Homberg. She grew up in Odessa and attended school there, graduating in 1961. While in high school she was a cheerleader and played tennis. After high school she attended WSU for one year and was in Davis Hall. She married Robert Kissler on April 20, 1963 in Odessa, and they continued to live there until her death....

These two juniors from Odessa High School vied for the title by submitting a written essay, answering questions put to them by the judges and expressing their willingness to represent Odessa at parades throughout the summer months in towns in eastern Washington.     A mailbox at the home of Shirley Johnson at 405 E. First Avenue in Odessa was essentially destroyed Saturday, April 1, prior to about 10 or 10:30 a.m. The mail carrier that day notifed the homeowner that the mailbox was damaged when the attempt was made to deliver that day's mail. The mailbox itself was thrown into the yard and its post was thrown off kilter.     Lincoln County Auditor Shelly Johnston has announced that the official filing period for the fall elections will be held May 15 through May 19, 2017. All offices are subject to both Primary and General Elections. If more than two candidates file for a position, the Primary Election would narrow the field to two candidates who would then appear on the General Election ballot.
