    While on a trip to Butte, Mont., retired Odessa High School teacher and coach Ken Scherr was inducted to the Coaches Hall of Fame in the "Coaches Corner" of the Sports Bar and Grill in the Metals Bank. This award is presented to former Butte graduates who have gone on to become successful coaches at the high school and college levels.   • Dry lightning brings more wildfires to eastern Washington

    Sunday, August 9, saw thunderclouds roll through the Odessa area, as lightning strikes produced wildfires. The fires burned mostly sage brush and bunchgrass pasture land but also threatened several homes in and around the former town of Irby.     Recently, it was reported in the Odessa Record of various power outages affecting local businesses and residential homes, which tells me that there is a bigger problem. There simply is not being enough electricity being delivered into the town of Odessa, and that is causing these issues or other issues at the Odessa substation owned and operated by Avista utilities, home-based in Spokane.     The Odessa School Board held a budget workshop in the district office at 6 p.m. on July 27, with superintendent Dan Read giving a brief overview of the revenues and expenditures budgeted for each of the funds. The board also completed Read’s evaluation and discussed goals for the next school year.     The results of the August 2, 2016 primary election in Lincoln County and statewide are provided below. The ballot count was last updated on August 5 with 46 precincts reporting. Out of the 6,809 registered voters, only 2,923 cast their ballots. The final ballot count will be on August 15 at 4 p.m. Voter turnout was 42.93 percent. The election will be certified August 16, 2016.
