Loren L. Schlimmer

 

Loren L. (Laddie) Schlimmer died March 31, 2011 in Odessa at the age of 80.

Laddie was born October 8, 1930, in Odessa to Conrad E. and Hattie (Schorzman) Schlimmer. He grew up on the family farm located north of Odessa and attended school in Marlin, graduating in 1948. While in school he played basketball and baseball for the Marlin Wildcats.

Laddie began his service in the U.S. Army at Camp Roberts, Calif., in 1951, shipping out to South Korea in 1952, where he served on a wire team. He returned home in July of 1953. While at Camp Roberts, he married Margaret A. Myrick of Stanford, Mont. Upon leaving military service, the young couple took over the family farm from Laddie’s parents, who retired to Odessa.

Laddie and Margaret’s first child, a son William Gene, was born in 1952, followed by a daughter Juli Anne in 1957. Laddie was involved in the Marlin community where he served on the school board and was an elder in the Marlin Presbyterian Church. In addition to farming, Laddie also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially hunting and “driving around” with his grandsons.

Laddie is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Margaret, at the home; his daughter Juli (Robin) Weishaar of Odessa; daughter-in-law Debbie Schafer of Spokane; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Melanie) Schlimmer of Bainbridge, Ga., Jake Schlimmer and Megan Clark of Odessa, Nicholas (Kim) Weishaar of Ritzville and LeeAnne (Harrison) Nikolao of Cheney; four great-grandchildren, Hadyn and Carter Schlimmer and Zoe and Joshua Clark; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Laddie was preceded in death by his parents Con and Hattie Schlimmer, an infant son in 1965 and Bill Schlimmer in 2002; his brother Roger Schlimmer and his sister Myra Juris.

He was a member of the Marlin Presbyterian Church, Odessa American Legion Post #105 and Ritzville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #11446.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa with Dr. Rev. Chester R. Dorsey officiating. Private family graveside services and inurnment at Odessa Cemetery will precede the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Odessa Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 348, Odessa, WA 99159, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Strate Funeral Home of Davenport is caring for the family.
