Barbara Greenwalt is the newest member of The Odessa Record's staff. With a background in office management and as an administrative assistant in local government offices, she has the necessary tools for making a major organizational contribution to our office.

Barbara is married to Gerald Greenwalt, formerly and now once again, a resident of Odessa. Gerald was raised in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High.

Barbara is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, the youngest of four children. Her father died when she was four years old, and her mother struggled to support the family as a single mother. After high school, Barbara made her way to California, eventually moving from there to the Seattle area. She met Gerald when he was working on a construction project that was taking place on the same street where she lived.

Between them, Barbara and Gerald have three grown children, two girls and one boy, as well as five grandchildren. Before moving to Odessa, they were long-time residents of Issaquah.

Barbara has furthered her education by taking classes at Bellevue Community College, learning computer-based office programs to help her streamline her work. Working for local governments, she saw a need for learning more about the laws governing projects that those entities were involved in. Eventually, she herself taught classes to public works employees on pertinent laws, such as those dealing with prevailing wage and the like.

Barbara likes to cook gourmet foods and has even taking gourmet cooking classes in Seattle. She also enjoys riding on the back of her husband's motorcycle as he does the driving. Fishing, camping, travel and NASCAR are other interests that she shares with her husband.

Barbara had visited Odessa before the couple moved and Gerald took a job with the Odessa public works department. She says she is glad to be back in Gerald's hometown. She has found that the people of Odessa treat her very well and have been most welcoming.
