Public office filing period announced

Lincoln County Auditor Shelly Johnston has announced that the official filing period for the fall elections will be held May 12 through May 16, 2014. Precinct Committee Officers will only be able to file during filing week and will appear on the ballot in the Primary Election instead of the General Election.

According to the records of the Lincoln County Auditor’s Office, the following is a list of those positions subject to the 2014 election. County offices having four-year terms are presently held by the following:

Assessor, Mark Hammond; Auditor, Shelly Johnston; Clerk of Superior Court, Peggy Semprimoznik; County Commissioner, District 3, Robert J. Coffman; Prosecuting Attorney, Jeffrey S. Barkdull; Sheriff, Wade Magers; Treasurer, Linda Fisher; District Court Judge, Joshua F. Grant.

Serving a six-year term is PUD Commissioner, District 1, Stephen G. Krupke.

All precinct committee officers serve two-year terms.

All offices are subject to both Primary and General Elections except the following: PUD Commissioner will be on the General Election ballot only unless more than two candidates file for the position. In that case, the Primary Election would narrow the field to two candidates who would then appear on the General Election ballot; precinct committee officers will appear only on the Primary Election ballot; District Court Judge will appear only on the General ballot, unless more than two candidates file. Then the two candidates receiving the most votes in the Primary Election would advance to the General Election ballot.

In the Primary Election, candidate names for County Commissioner District #3 will appear only on ballots for those precincts within the specific district. At the General Election, this commissioner position will be on ballots countywide.

The filing fee of one percent of the annual salary shall accompany the declaration of candidacy. There is no filing fee for precinct committee officer. There is no fee if the office sought is without a fixed salary. Filing packets may be picked up at the auditor’s office or downloaded from the Elections portion of the website at http://www.co.lincoln.wa.us.

Anyone wishing to file may do so at the Lincoln County Auditor’s office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the stated filing period. Mail-in declarations must not have a postmark earlier than April 28. Declarations by mail must be in our office no later than the last day of the filing period, May 16, at 4 p.m. and must include the correct filing fee.

To find out more information regarding filing week or any of the above offices or terms, please contact Shelly or Tina in the Lincoln County Auditor’s office at 725-4971.
