Harrington volunteers give the finishing touches to a canine client at the annual Harrington Opera House Dog Wash Elevator Fundraiser.

Children prepare for school

The Summer Reading Program on Thursday, August 21, was focused on the approaching return to the school season. Meka Eaton led the eight children in coloring sheets with school bus, backpacks, and other school related images. Each seemed to have a postivie attitude about school beginning, and the children were able to compare home schooling to the public school room.

They enjoyed a movie and snack time. Some were successful at creating paper bag puppets with colorful faces. As 5 p.m. approached, most of the children found books that they checked out. Thursday, August 28, will conclude the Summer Reading Program which had a very successful two-month session this year.

Annual dog wash successful

Saturday, August 23, Carol and Karen from the Harrington Opera House Society volunteered their time to provide baths for any of the local dogs for a donation to go into the elevator fund. They reported a good turnout, with $64 being donated. "All who came enjoyed their day at the spa!"

Tours were given of the Opera House to any who desired and the Rummage Room was open from 9 to 3 p.m. where $235.45 was donated for a wide range of objects including holey jeans, bicycles, dishware, knickknacks, books and furniture. The next rummage sale will be held during the Harrington Fall Festival where items will include a set of bunk beds, a round hardwood dining table, wicker furniture, frames, a TV, a couch and many household items.
