View partial solar eclipse 10/ 23 at BBCC

The public is invited to participate in a telescope viewing of a partial solar eclipse at Big Bend Community College October 23 starting at 1:40 p.m.

Dr. Jim Hamm’s Astronomy 101 class will set up telescopes with solar filters so people can safely view the eclipse. Hamm said 65 percent of the sun’s surface will be blocked at maximum eclipse. The viewing will end at 4:25 p.m.

The telescopes will be set up on the lawn between the Math/Science Building and Wallenstien Theater. Hamm says other amateur astronomers with solar telescopes may join the group....
