Information on junior varsity action for the first games of the season was supplied to The Record this week.

JV boys

The Titan boys junior varsity has been working hard all season thus far. JV coach Larry Weber said he has been pleased with their progress so far, despite some early losses.

The December 5 game against Davenport was a solid first game of the season, Weber said, of the team’s 37-43 loss ot the Gorillas. Colton Hunt led the Titan scoring with 13, followed by Caleb Behrens with 11. Brad Johnston had 4 points, William Mann and Aaron Gies 3 each, Jayd Jennings 2 and Dylan Shockley 1.

The December 6 game against Wilbur-Creston was also a loss, 26-39. The Titans had a rough fourth quarter and were outscored 18-3, but Weber said the boys did a better job of being strong with the ball. Jennings was the high scorer with 9, followed by Hunt with 8, Behrens with 5 and Johnston and Mann with 2 each.

The Titans then lost to Lind-Ritzville-Sprague on December 12 at home in Odessa, 31-49. A slow first half for the O-H boys was followed by a much better second half in which they outscored the Broncos 24-15. There were signs of improvement in the overall team defense, however, Weber said. Hunt had the hot hand for the Titans, scoring 19 points. Jennings had 8, Johnston 3 and Behrens 1.

The following night, December 13, the boys got their first win of the season against Wellpinit, 72-36, in a home game played at Harrington. Weber said the boys had great team defense, providing defensive stops that led to transition baskets. Jennings was the scoring leader in the game with 21 points, followed by Hunt with 18. Johnston also had a good game with 14. Mann and Shockley scored 5 points each, Behrens 4, John Tanke 3, Theron Schlomer 2 and Aaron Gies 1.

Against Lind-Ritzville-Sprague December 12, the Titan girls played only two quarters, losing 8-17. Amber Smith and Maleah Davison scored 3 points each, and Isabelle Phillips scored 2. Davison also contributed 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Alexis Burdick had 1 rebound and 1 assist, Stormy Stiles had 2 rebounds and Evie Mann had 1 rebound and 2 steals.

The December 13 game against Wellpinit was also only two quarters long, with the Titans just barely squeaking out a victory, 31-30.
