The Odessa-Harrington Titan track and field teams, both boys and girls, took first place at the district meet held May 22 at Central Valley High School in Spokane.
A total of 12 O-H students qualified for the state meet to be held May 28-30 at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. Lanessa Simon qualified in four events, high jump, long jump, triple jump and pole vault. Casey Schlomer will compete in discus, javelin and pole vault. Colby Sooy qualified in shotput and discus. Aaron Gies will run the 110-m hurdles and will be a member of the 4x100 relay team. Shelbey Watkins qualified for both the 100-m and 300-m hurdles. Jordyn Tanke will compete in the 100, 200, 100-m hurdles and 300-m hurdles. Sam Schafer qualilfied for the long jump, triple jump, 100 meters and 200 meters. Gaven Elder will run the 100 meters and be part of the 4x100 relay team. Tyler Paris will also be part of that same relay team. Jenna Shafer qualified in the discus. Cole Kissler is the fourth member of the 4x100 relay team. John DeWulf will compete in the triple jump, pole vault and javelin.

Highlights
Sam Schafer's 11.15-sec finish in the 100 meters was a personal best and gives him the number-one spot among 1B athletes in the state. In the 200 meters, he holds the second spot. Schafer also holds the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.54c, although he did not compete in that event at the district meet. In the long jump, Schafer's 20-09.00 was good enough for first place at the district level, but his personal best of 21-05 puts him in the top spot statewide for 1B schools. The triple jump results are similar: Schafer jumped 39-10.5 for a district first place, but his 42-5.50 from an earlier meet put him in first place in the state top ten listing.
John DeWulf's personal best in the javelin is 144-1.00, good enough to give him 10th place in the state 1B standings. His throw of 139-03 was good enough for first place at the district meet. In the triple jump, DeWulf's 41-1.00 gives him the fourth place spot statewide, while his 39-01.00 was good enough for third at the district competition. In the pole vault, DeWulf cleared 10 feet and finished fifth in the district meet. His personal best of 10-06 has him tied with three others for the ninth spot on the state top ten list.
Statewide, Jordyn Tanke holds second place for 1B schools in both the 100 and 200 meters with times of 13.19a and 27.38a, respectively. She was also in second place in both races at the district level. She is in sixth place in the top ten statewide in both the 100-meter hurdles at 17.74c (third at district meet) and in the 300-meter hurdles at 50.96a (second at the district meet).
Shelbey Watkins had a personal best in the 100-m hurdles at 17.83a, which also moved her into seventh place in the top ten in the state.
Casey Schlomer took a second place in the discus but her distance of 92-04 was well below her best of 97-3.00 which put her at eighth in the top ten. Her 102-7.00 in the javelin was good enough for fourth place at the district meet and also moved her into the number 10 spot statewide. Also tied for 10th in the state in pole vault, Schlomer cleared seven feet.
Jenna Shafer holds the number eight spot in the top ten in the javelin with a personal best of 105-5.00.
Lanessa Simon holds first place statewide in both the long jump and triple jump and won both of those events at the district meet. She is also in the top ten in the high jump and the pole vault.
