This year, Avista and Northwest Farm Credit Services teamed up to recognize 4-H high-school seniors and juniors for their leadership, core values and personification of the 4-H mission throughout their entire 4-H career, including project completion and service to their communities. Through the Washington State 4-H Foundation, a Rural 4-H Scholars Program was established for outstanding 4-H members to apply for the $1000 scholarships: $500 from Avista and $500 from Northwest Farm Credit Services.

On Saturday, August 22, 4-H members, Trevor King from Odessa and Mariah Wollweber from Edwall each received $500 Scholarships from both Avista and Northwest Farm Credit Services at the Lincoln County Fair. Cesar Godinez from the Avista Davenport office presented the scholarships on behalf of Avista, Northwest Farm Credit Services, and the Washington State 4-H Foundation in the main arena right before the grand entry of the Pro West Rodeo.

Trevor King has been involved in the Odessa Jr. Livestock 4-H Club for all 10 years of his 4-H membership, serving as club president for three of those years. The Beef Project has been his focus during his 4-H career, and he also assisted with many community service projects in both 4-H and other organizations. Trevor plans to attend Central Washington University this fall to study engineering.

Mariah Wollweber, a high-school junior attending Christian Heritage School, has completed 10 years of 4-H club membership. She has been involved in a variety of project areas ranging from foods and clothing to goat, sheep, and horse projects in several clubs. Mariah has also served as a state 4-H Ambassador, participated in the state 4-H Know Your Government Program, as well as numerous community service activities.

The 4-H Foundation, WSU faculty and staff and 4-H volunteers and members appreciate the support provided by business and community organizations such as Avista and Northwest Farm Credit Services.

Trevor King and Kate Schell, of Ritzville, also each received a $500 Lincoln-Adams 4-H Scholarship from the Lincoln-Adams 4-H Leaders’ Councils this year.
