On August 13, 2015, the North Star Fire broke out on the Colville Indian Reservation, 25 miles north of Grand Coulee. Due to drought conditions, hot temperatures and strong winds, the fire quickly grew to 45,000 acres after the first week, and 170,000 acres by the second week. At the same time, the Okanogan Complex and Chelan Complex fires were burning out of control, and the fires were ravaging hundreds of thousands of acres in Washington state, creating the biggest fire in state history.

The Mt. Tolman Fire Center is the main dispatch center for the entire Colville Tribe...
