Friday's football game postponed to later date

Those of our readers looking forward to the start of the new Titan football season will be happy to know the wait is only one more day if you are willing to travel to Northport on Friday, September 9. Those who don’t want to travel that far will have to wait until the first home game on Deutschesfest weekend when the Titans play Republic in the Sausage Bowl September 16.

The Titans were scheduled to play St. John-Endicott September 2, but the game had to be postponed due the failure of an electrical switch located on a pole near a transformer at Finney Field. The lights had been tested earlier and worked fine, but when Friday rolled around, the switch was found to be faulty. The switch is a piece of equipment belonging to Avista, so the company was called and asked to help out as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the soonest a crew could reach Odessa was at 9:30 that evening. By then the game had been called off and scheduled for a later date. The Avista crew returned to Odessa Tuesday to install a replacement switch, according to school superintendent Dan Read.
