Rhea Jean Strate

Rhea Jean Strate was born on May 24, 1925 in Marlin to Gustav and Emma (Kallenberger) Zimbelman.

She died in Spokane October 28, 2016, at the age of 91.

She attended and graduated from the Marlin School District. She married LaMar Strate on January 19, 1947 in Odessa. They moved to Spokane in 1969.

Rhea is survived by her four daughters Marla (Bob) Svoboda, Beverly (Ceddio) Barela, Shelly (Rich) Miller and Robyn (Geoff) Norwood; six grandchildren Katie, Mandie, Téa, Muriah, Tyler and Jordan, along with six great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Donald and Robert Zimbelman, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Rhea is preceded in death by her husband LaMar (in 1986); her parents Gus and Emma Zimbelman; three sisters Florence Schlimmer, Viola Syring and Ione “Tootie” Zeiler and three brothers Leo, Melvin and Herb Zimbelman.

Rhea was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the South Side Senior Center. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, bowling, playing cards and going to the casino, but her family and especially her grandchildren were most important to her.

Memorials can be made to Shriner’s Hospital, Spokane Guild Schools or to the donor’s choice. A private family graveside service will be held at the Odessa Cemetery.
