William John "Bill" Miller

William John "Bill" Miller, 86, passed away on Sunday March 5, 2017. Born May 14, 1930 in LaSalle, Colo. to William Daniel and Josephine "Jo" Regina (Bolig) Miller. Bill was only six years old when his father passed away. He later gained a new dad when his mom married James Ambrose "Bruce" Conlin.

Bill attended LaSalle Schools, Big Bend School, and graduated from College High in Greeley in 1948. Bill played basketball in high school.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, entering service on December 26, 1950. He served as a Gunners Mate onboard the USS Rochester (CA124), receiving the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal (2), Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Medal. Bill was honorably discharged on October 19, 1954, from Long Beach, Calif.

Bill was a lifelong member of the VFW, Adamson-Warmuth Post #6624. Bill Worked for Craven Construction Company, Union Pacific Railroad and Mountain Bell Telephone Company, retiring after 30 years of service, followed by part-time employment with Nortel and a local carwash.

Bill married the love of his life Margaret Anna Lee Scholfield in Greeley on January 20, 1956. They renewed their vows on their 50th anniversary. Anna Lee passed away Thanksgiving Day 2013 after 57 years of marriage. Bill and Anna Lee loved dancing together. Watching the two of them dance together is a fond memory of their children and grandchildren. Grandpa Bill also enjoyed dancing with his granddaughters and great granddaughters. Bill was an avid bowler, bowling a perfect 300 on more than one occasion. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching his nieces, nephews and grandchildren play sports and spending time with family.

Bill lived most of his life in Northern Colorado, including LaSalle, Arvada, Golden, Loveland, Milliken, Platteville and Greeley. He moved to Odessa in April of 2015 to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his son, Daniel (Sharon) Miller of Greeley; daughters, Sherri (Mike) Frederick of Odessa and Stacey Miller of Sterling, Colo .; grandchildren Lyndsay (Alberto) Reyes, Robert Buckingham, Nettie Miller, all of Odessa, and Adrianna Leigh Kelley of Greeley; great grandchildren Chloe Winkler, Mackenzie Lutz, AJ Reyes and Carlos Reyes, all of Odessa; his loving wife's twin sister Anna Lou (Carl) Hergenreder of Kersey, Colo .; his sister and brothers, all of LaSalle, Colo., JoAnn (Dick) Craven, Edward DeVere (Marilyn) Conlin and James (Mary Ann) Conlin; special uncle Charles Bolig of LaSalle; a very special friend Wayne Frederick of Odessa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Debra Lee Miller in 1957; his parents William D. Miller, Josephine Conlin and Bruce Conlin; his sister and brother-in-law Dorothy (Conlin) and Eldon McLaughlin and his brother Donald E. Miller.

Services in Odessa will be Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Jon Hayashi. Luncheon will follow at the Old Town Hall. Inurnment at Fort Logan National Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will take place later this spring in Colorado.

Contributions may be made to the Odessa Community Ministerial Association or the VFW Adamson-Warmuth Post #6624 in Evans, Colo.
