The Odessa Athletics Hall of Fame committee has resumed its meetings in Odessa under its chairman, current OHS athletic director Bruce Todd, and has selected the inductees for the 2017 induction year. Last year’s inaugural ceremony was held at the high reunion in June, and this year a similar ceremony will take place. This year, the committee has selected 10 individuals and two teams that will be honored at the reunion and have their names and short bios added to the display case in the Odessa High School gym. The announcement of the names of the newest inductees will be made in The Odessa Record a few weeks prior to the June 17, 2017 reunion. Once again

The Record will produce a keepsake booklet with pictures and information on the selected inductees.

Jon Heimbigner, vice chair of the committee, is encouraging the public to contact the committee with suggested nominees. Even though the committee has a fairly long list of potential inductees right now, it is always open to suggestions from the public, particularly with regard to the earliest years of Odessa athletics.

The committee incurs expenses for the plaques that are awarded to each inductee and the plates that are put into the display case at the gym, so Heimbigner has asked that any alums or friends of Odessa who might wish to make donations to help defray these expenses please call his cell phone at 509-701-5741.
