FFA plant sale continues Saturday of Spring Fling

Odessa FFA members and ag shop students have been working tirelessly in the greenhouse this year. They started back in December, picking out the plant plugs and seeds to be ordered. In February the first plugs started arriving in the mail. As the plugs came in, they were transplanted into bigger pots, so they would have lots of room to grow. With over 1,000 plugs coming in over a period of a few weeks, the students were super busy, and the greenhouse filled quickly.

Through February and March, many plants were started from seed as well. Many students enjoyed the process of getting their hands dirty and planting seeds. After everything was planted came the nonstop process of watering. Watering would take place usually every other day unless it was warm outside. Then we would water each day. This watering schedule also included weekends and spring break. So students or teacher would have to take time out to head down to the greenhouse and water.

As the big plant sale drew near, many other items also had to be planned. Signs for advertising had to be made and distributed. Spreadsheets were created to show what costs were associated with each plant, so that they could be priced accordingly. The greenhouse was cleaned and organized. It was BUSY, BUSY, BUSY! We had great fun kicking off the plant sale with “presales” for all those with green thumbs who were ready to start planting. We also look forward to having our big sale on April 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during Spring Fling. We have enjoyed the support of the community and are looking forward to  this weekend.
