Volunteers paint the town orange

Students, teachers and many community members gathered at Finney Field last week to repaint structures there that have been purple for the duration of the Odessa-Harrington athletic cooperative. Now that each of the two schools has decided to go its own way, the Harrington folks are returning to their original mascot, the Panthers, with school colors of red and black, and the Odessa mascot returns to the Tigers and the orange and black colors.

After painting, the volunteers gathered for hamburgers and hot dogs supplied by the school with side dishes supplied potluck-style by the volunteers.

Inside the Odessa school building itself, the custodial crew has also been busy over the summer applying orange paint to cover the purple that dominated during the brief Titan era. It would appear that most Odessa alumni are happy about the return to the Tiger mascot of their youth, although some will miss the purple.
