Scramble draws crowd

The second annual Tim Hauge Memorial Golf Scramble drew a large group of golfers to Odessa Golf & RV. The event in memory of Pastor Tim Hauge, who died in 2016, is used to raise scholarship money for ongoing post-secondary education.

According to Deanna Nelson, secretary at Christ Lutheran Church, the scholarship is envisioned for anyone who meets the application guidelines, which are still in development. However, it will be open to any high school graduate wanting to pursue higher education right after high school or even later on in life.

The golf tournament drew 51 participants comprising 12 teams of four golfers each and one team of three. Others came to the event just to enjoy the dinner, and some just to be spectators. Members of other communities in the area were also present to lend their support.

With the entry fees and other donations, the event raised over $3,000 for the scholarship fund. Businesses and individuals also donated prizes for a raffle. The money raised will be invested and overseen by Thrivent Financial.

Once the applications have been received, the Odessa Community Ministerial Association and members of the Hauge family will select the scholarship recipients.
