Many hands make light work at OTH

Thanks to the ongoing support of the community of Odessa, as well as a very generous contributions from the Odessa Lions Club and Odessa Lodge No. 156 of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Old Town Hall kitchen improvement project is moving forward, starting this week. The Old Town Hall Rejuvenation Society has been planning this project for over a year, and has dedicated proceeds from the past years’ annual indoor yard sale to the project.

The plan includes installing new counter tops, sinks and faucets; cleaning and painting cabinets and installing roll-out shelves; putting in a high-temperature, under-counter commercial dishwasher and new place settings for at least 60 guests. Society members hope to have the project complete prior to Thanksgiving this year.

To kick off the project, we have scheduled a three-day work party to “rejuvenate” the wooden cabinets, beginning Friday, October 20, and ending Sunday, October 22. Anyone who would like to help is invited. A tentative schedule of work would be:

Friday morning, empty cabinets and remove hardware, doors and drawers.

Friday afternoon, wash exterior surfaces and sand if necessary, prime.

Saturday, continue prepping and paint.

Sunday morning, clean cabinet and drawer interiors.

Sunday afternoon, install new hardware and replace doors and drawers.

Project organizers are hoping to have at least six volunteers for each shift. There will be plenty of work to do and plenty of space to do it in. Especially desirable are volunteers who have power tools (screwdrivers and sanders especially) and aren’t afraid to use them. Drop cloths, paint, rollers and brushes will be provided. For more information or to schedule a shift, call Lise Ott at 988-0085.
