Sheriff's Office receives Naloxone training

After receiving training, Lincoln County Deputies are now equipped with the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone. The deputies have been equipped with single-dose spray dispensers to be used in the event they encounter a subject who is suffering from an opioid overdose.

Opioids include heroin, Methadone, OxyContin, Dilaudid, morphine, Demerol, hydrocodone/Vicodin, Percocet, Fentanyl and Fentanyl analogs.

An opioid overdose causes a person's breathing to slow or completely stop. Naloxone can help counteract those life-threatening effects. The list of drugs are linked to addiction and in many cases, law enforcement officers are the first to arrive at the scene of an opioid overdose. Naloxone can also be used on a fellow deputy if they are exposed to an opioid.

"We were able to secure the Naloxone kits through a grant from the Washington Department of Social and Health Services and managed by the University of Washington's Center for Opioid Safety Education, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute. The two-pack spray costs about $75.00 and has a shelf life of two years," reports Sheriff Wade Magers.
