Ed Smith passed away in Odessa on December 22, 2017 at the age of 91.

He was born to Harry and Esther Smith on November 9, 1926 on the family farm at Batum. Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hard working farmer who did what he needed to provided for his family, often times working at the Odessa Trading Company warehouses in addition to farming.

Upon retirement and always a farmer, he spent many hours in his garden or maintaining the yards for various people in the community. Ed's contribution to the community was his goal to have the American Flag fly in every yard on main street. He installed flag stands in yards and encouraged people to fly the flag.

In his spare time, he enjoyed baking cookies. You could always count on a freezer full of cookies for all to enjoy. He also enjoyed playing his "small" games of solitaire that took up the dining room table and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Ed is survived by six children: Connie Renelle (Roger) Nelson, Rick (Marilyn) Smith, Joanne (Johnny) Altizer, Carol (Mike) LaPlant, James Smith (Sandy Libsack) and Karen (Chris) Lynch; 17 grandchildren; 16 great -grandchildren and two nieces.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife Patricia on March 30, 2016. He was a member of the Heritage Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Odessa EMTs. Please sign the online guestbook at http://www.stratefuneralhome.com. Strate Funeral Home of Davenport is caring for the Smith family.
