Harrington's FFA alums hold first dinner/auction

Harrington FFA

Alumni secretary

The Harrington FFA Alumni held a very successful First Annual Dinner and Auction Saturday night in the Harrington Memorial Hall to end National FFA Week. Packed into the Hall at 5 p.m. for happy hour drinks and silent auction bidding were 130 proud supporters. A dinner of ribs and chicken was catered by Longhorn BBQ, while silent auction bidding went on.

At 7:30 p.m., Washington state FFA president Seth Smith addressed the crowd on the importance of FFA and the opportunities it provides to students. State secretary Kelci Scharff was also present and assisted the alumni throughout the night.

After the speech was given and silent auction bidding had closed, live auction bidding began. Harrington resident Tucker Cool, of Best Bid Auctions, LLC kicked off the entertaining live auction portion with six delicious desserts made by Harrington locals. Auctioneer Cool initiated a scholarship paddle raise in the middle of the live auction which raised $2,600 for graduating seniors. At the end of the night, the Harrington FFA Alumni had raised nearly $28,000 to go towards taking the Harrington FFA program above and beyond in agricultural education and to give their students many more opportunities to excel. The Harrington FFA Alumni was also the recipient of much community support. From sponsorships to donations, from making bids to buying a ticket and showing up, the Harrington community proved that it cares about agriculture and the FFA students. The platinum sponsors for the event were Northwest Farm Credit Services/Emily Gordon, Highline Grain Growers, Inc. and The Grange Supply Co. of Odessa/Harrington.

Those who would like to keep an eye on what we are up to and see all the great items and sponsors we had for the auction are invited to 'like" and "follow" the Facebook page entitled Harrington FFA Alumni and our Instagram page @harringtonffaalumni.
