Zachary A. Zagelow, 18, of Milton, Wis. died June 12, 2015 at Loyola University Hospital of Chicago, where he had been hospitalized in hopes of receiving a lung transplant. Zach was born February 13, 1997 in Spokane and underwent his first of several heart surgeries in his first week of life. In November of 1998, Zach received the gift of a life-saving heart/lung transplant at Stanford University, and much of his life centered on regular visits to multiple doctors and hospitals in the care of that gift. In the year following his transplant, Zach was named the Children's Miracle Network representative for Washington State and visited the White House and Disney World in that role.

Zach attended Edgerton High school where he recently completed his junior year. Zach participated in forensics and was a member of the Edgerton Choir. Zach took great pride in his choir activities, including the Pops concert, Chamber Singers and the Band of Pride during the Memorial Day Parade in New York City. Zach had aspirations of attending the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater to pursue a career in elementary education.

A lover of history, Zach volunteered at the Hoard Museum of Fort Atkinson, Wis. and the Rock County Historical Society of Janesville, Wis. Zach also had a great love for trains and was an avid Thomas the Train collector. After receiving the "Arrow of Light" award as a Cub Scout, Zach was then a long time member of Boy Scout Troup #422 in Edgerton.

Zach received his driver's license and earned and purchased his own car through lawn care, special-needs child care and seasonal work at Shopko. Zach took great pride in the Mexican heritage of his mother's family and was a life-long fan of the Washington State Cougars, the Seattle Seahawks and of anything from his birth state of Washington.
