Mom was born November 16, 1920, in Dryden to John and Mary Hoff Isaak. She had nine brothers and sisters: Gordon, John, Ione, Florence, Viola, Eva, Harold, Carl and Alvin. Her mother died when she was 18 months old, and she went to live with her mother's parents, John and Mary Hoff, and her mother's seven brothers and sisters. She attended High School in Odessa and married Herbert Martin Sackmann in 1939. They lived on the Sackmann dryland wheat farm 15 miles south of Odessa and raised a daughter and three sons.

Dad died in 1971, and mom moved to a condo in Spokane. She was involved in the Spokane Club, ballroom dancing, Deaconess Hospital, walking and fitness. She traveled extensively, to Egypt, Africa, Japan, Australia, etc. She traveled to the U.S. Midwest and East, visiting relatives and tracing her family ancestry. Her children also loved to vacation with her, in Alaska, Mexico, Kauai and even gunk holing up the Inland Passage through Canada to Alaska in a 20' boat or 28' catamaran.
